Diagnosis

Our specialists are trained to take a precise medical history and thoroughly examine the foot and ankle joint. This will often produce a diagnosis which can be further investigated using x-rays, ultrasound, magnetic resonance imaging and arthroscopy.

X-rays showing different views of the ankle will identify if there is any arthritis or loose bodies.Ultrasound can be used to investigate swellings, bursa, ruptures or vein problems.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) will give detailed pictures of articular cartilage and ligaments.

Arthroscopy may be used once diagnosis has been made and allows for treatment of any conditions found.
